agumbe rainforest, better known as Agumbe Rainforest Research Station and is a less familiar but beautiful place. Introducing you to this, Alpa Dougli ji who hails from Mumbai and makes very interesting, risky trips.

This travelogue of agumbe rainforest was written for the Bharat Darshan WhatsApp group. Since Alpa ji does not write continuously, so ignore the impurities and encourage it.

I am your friend Alpa Dougli from Mumbai, presently I'm a housewife, I used to work before, but for raising my son and his studies I had quit my job. Travelling is my passion as well as its a Stressbuster. I love new places, remote areas, mountains and forests so much, that's why I always get involved in the groups of new or unknown people. By the way, my dream is to go to the Amazon forests and Antarctica, but not yet fulfilled.

One day I was sitting with the evening tea and TV remote and while exploring the channel I saw a forest on Discovery. Wonderful and unique Agumbe Rainforest Research Station. This forest is the rainforest located in the state of Karnataka. The best time to visit agumbe rainforest is rain, but if you visit in any month, this forest does not disappoint you. Combat Fight is seen on Fab-March as it is the mating season of the King Cobra. In different seasons, more than  70 species of snakes are seen here, it is also called the home of King Cobra and Cherrapunji of the South. Seeing the views of this forest, my mind yearned to go there. I do not feel the forest as calm as the mountains, but I think every tree, plant, insect, animal, a bird in the forest talks to me and I talk to them. I love touching every tree plant, feeling them and collecting their fragrance inside me while walking.

Just like Aishwarya's arrival in the locality, all the useless people get involved in extracting her information, similarly a worm penetrated my mind to go to agumbe rainforest and after this my Google search started - Agumbe Rainforest Research Station - Then one day at a meetup I found a group and decided to go to Agumbe Rainforest Research Station with 5 strangers.

If you have to go away from home for 2 days, then you have to prepare a lot of food for the husband and son, it takes a lot of preparation, before going and after coming, I become like a maid in 2 days. But it is worth paying all the prices for such a place. The bombardment started that evening on Hiroshima and Nagasaki (on husband). A lot of papads belted to impress them, then what - the fort was destroyed. My packing started 3 days ago for anti-leech socks, first-aid, torch, camera, etc. If you do not get electricity on the forest campsite, then put the power bank and extra battery with you. I also downloaded some mobile apps for myself (Eg.snakes of agumbe), and also kept a book of some spiders and insects.

Then that evening also came, I saw God. I also gave a little bribe to bring me back safely, and I just left for the station. At the station, I met all the other friends, of whom I did not know anyone. Everyone was meeting for the first time. Then some talks happened in the train, friendship happened. The golden dreams of the second day were cherished in our eyes. On the second day we reached Udupi station.  English and Hindi language does not work here very much, but we had a girl from Bangalore, Ramya, who knew the language and spoke to the taxi driver.

In a taxi we reached Gudikeri (4 km before camp). From there the path is like a Don (which is not only difficult to find but impossible). That's why our car was taken from there, guided by Prashant sir (who runs the camp and also shares knowledge with all the documentaries). After walking for about 15 minutes after getting down from the car we finally reached the Agumbe Karnataka. Put the tents here, ate food and went out to the forest with our camera after getting refreshed.

Explored the forest at noon and night on both days. Embarked lots of photography. I did research in the library with coffee, got everyone's ID,  expend Udit Sir's head (doing his Ph.D. there). I and Ramya enjoyed the morning walk alone, birdwatching and even roamed the meadows nestled in the dense forests. I also watched the lifestyle of a Cobra snake in detail. There Sir gave us a lot of information  about King Cobra and answered all our questions about various species (like Boa, Rattle, Phaeton, Indian Cobra, Keelback, Pitvipers, vine, etc.) through the documentary. The fun of the forest at night was no less than a romantic drive.

Here at the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station, we used to eat different South Indian and Mangalorean food in the middle of our forest. Sometimes birds or frogs or cicadas kept singing hi hello to me and cricket used to sing lullabies for me all night. Even the songs of birds (debris whistling thrush) used to act as an alarm. Even a frog gave me a flying kiss in the bathroom and after that, I stopped taking a bath. It's better to wash my hands in the open. I tell you one of my experiences - when Ramya and I went out in the morning, everyone scared us not to go alone but I had to go because I know, I'm safer in the snake's forest than the forests of men. The first snake is seen after walking for half an hour. We got scared and the way I screamed taking my mom's name, even the poor snake went in fear.

Then slowly I got used to - their and my screaming to them.

In the end, because of my request, we did a sunset trek too. For that to make the way to cut the twigs and branches, make the trail for the return, get in the dark after sunset, photography there, watching the view from the top of the Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary was a pleasant experience and I found a lot of thorn marks and scratches in the gift.

Now the next target is the forests of Amazon and to live with the tribal people there - till then with the memories of it -- we went to catch the return train.
