After booking the ticket, we again caught the bus by going to Main Chowk in Diglipur. This time on the bus we took the ticket to the last destination which is the base of Saddle Peak. The fare up to the hotel is 14 INR and the fare for here is 17 INR. After booking the tickets we had mental peace on one side and on the other side today, we had to climb Saddle Peak because tomorrow morning we had to go back to Port Blair.
The road ends at the base of Saddle Peak and the forest starts. There is an office here from where permits for saddle peak are made. There was a car parked here which showed that there are other people who have gone there. When we gave a voice at the office, a man came and made our permit.
Saddle Peak is a national park and the entry fee of a man here is 25 INR for Indians. 10 INR for the camera. We were three men and two cameras, so we went inside by paying 95 rupees. Rajesh Sahrawat ji was not intended to climb up. The path up to the peak was 8 kilometers. It was then 11 o'clock in the morning and there was neither any road nor any facility in this dense forest. There was also no provision of electricity, water, and security, so we had to cover this 16-kilometer route before the end of the day. Saddle Peak is the highest peak of Andaman which is about 730 meters high. This eight-kilometer route has a 3-kilometer route is on the plane and a slope of 5 kilometers. This slope is very steep which you will see later. At the moment we started moving the colorful butterflies started welcoming us.
After walking about half a kilometer some distance, Rajesh Ji went back. We were also aware that if we did not have to go to book tickets today, then we would have come here around 5 o'clock in the morning, and then we could take Rajesh Ji with us. No matter how easily he walked, we would come back in 12 hours. Now both I and the Jaat Devta started walking comfortably. The first three kilometers were very strange. Here, there are red and yellow marks on the trees in the forest to show the way. In many places where these marks ere there, the road has closed due to rainwater.
Here, due to falling of trees and many times we could not find the way, then we had to jump on top of the trees several times and get out of the bushes several times. After a kilometer, a channel came after crossing that we continued on the footpath and reached where two or three houses were built. A woman was sitting there whom we asked, and she told me that you had come in the wrong way. We had to take care of the seashore. The way is until you can see the sea. You can also walk on the shore along the beach, but the sand is not everywhere, there are marshes and enormous stones in many places, so you must prefer walking on the way through the forest.
The dense forest with the odd kind of trees, from above this rainy forest, was covered with big trees to long climbers and vines. Now after that, we have made sure that the sea can be seen from a distance, just to keep walking down the same path. Many streams of water come in between. Three kilometers later, the sea remains on one side and the climbing begins. The forest department has maintained a hut here.
There were plenty of snails on the way here, which used close its shell as soon as it heard a little loud noise, no matter if you put your feet on them. Before crossing this house, the channel which came was intersecting there was a tree was lying on it to cross it. By the way, the flow of water was not too much on the shore, so instead of crossing it by walking above the tree, we crossed it walking through water. While coming back in the evening, we could not cross this place the same, because at that time the high tide had taken place and the water level had increased a lot here.
